DLP TV

The work on DLP TV started way back in 1970 by Larry Hornbeck at Texas Instruments. But the technology was finally made available to the consumers in 1996. Let us first try to understand what is DLP TV and why this technology is fast catching on with the people.

DLP stands for Digital Light Processing. The technology is the result of experimentation with the fingernail-sized computer chips that can hold more than a million microscopic mirrors. By using Digital Micromirror Device (DMD), light or dark pixels are created on the screen which is filtered to a color wheel. This wheel runs at a speed of 120 rotations per second giving out a perfect color shade.

If you analyze DLP TV versus Plasma TV systems, there is not much difference between these two technologies in terms of image clarity. However, a Plasma TV has slight edge over DLP but is hardly noticeable to the viewers. DLP projection TV has bright displays and perfect angle viewing. Plasma on the other hand is richer in color and very vibrant. You can surf the web while watching your show on plasma TV.

Such split screen and computer related operations options are not possible with most of DLP TVs which are meant for home entertainment only. DLP TV review says that the cost of Samsung DLP TV replacement lamps is around $349. The estimated life of Samsung DLP TV lamps is around 5000 hours. Once DLP TV Lamps are changed, you TV performance will be at par with the new one. But unfortunately, Plasma is at disadvantageous position here. The Plasma technology uses the rare natural gases like xeon, neon and argon for producing the light and color. These gases fade with the time and are irreplaceable. This means with the passing time, the quality of brightness and colors goes down and the viewers have no option but to replace its plasma TV to get original performance. At present, DLP technology is cheaper than plasma but the difference is shrinking as the time passes by.

Have a look at DLP TV reviews and you will find that there are many big players in the fray to cater this technology to the consumers. LED DLP TV, Samsung DLP TV, HP DLP TV, Mitsubishi DLP TV, Toshiba DLP TV are claiming to be the best DLP TV by giving prominence to their USP factor which could be the technology, view angle, resolution, aspect ratio and price etc.
