The blue ray format uses the true high definition, 1080i. 1080p playback for new blue ray discs.
The Pioneer BDP-HD1 plays Blu-ray discs, standard DVD-Video, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, and DVD+RW discs. The player features two formats, one is surround sound and the other is for processing two channel audio effects.
