Surround Sound

Unlike the monaural or binaural sound systems, which record sound on a single audio track/channel and two-channels, the surround sound systems record sound with the help of multiple audio channels, so that the sound comes from 3 to 4 directions at any time. Although the word surround sound technically refers to multi-channel sound systems designed by Dolby Laboratories, it is commonly used as a generic terminology for multi-channel theater and home theater systems. In such surround sound systems, there are special wireless surround sound microphones that record surround sound by picking it up from three or more directions. The output is also through special surround sound speakers, releasing sound from all the directions.

The most convenient way to access surround sound is through a receiver that has a surround sound decoder. This decoder recognizes all the out-of-the-phase information and extracts that into a third channel. The receiver also boosts this channel to an exact level and adds to that slight time delay. You can work this arrangement yourself by getting pair of rear wireless surround sound speakers and positioning them left and right. The surround sound speaker placement should be such that you are able to connect the (+) amplifier terminal of the right channel to the (+) speaker terminal of the right rear speaker, and the (+) amplifier terminal of the left channel to the (+) speaker terminal of the left rear speaker. You can then connect both the (-) terminals of the rear speakers at that time.

Conclusion

In case you are convinced of getting a surround sound set up done for yourself, Bose surround sound, Sony surround sound, or even Panasonic surround sound could be very good and trustworthy options. In case you are planning to install a wireless surround sound system or in-ceiling surround sound systems, you need to however consider their positioning well in advance. See whether you wan to install them in your current home (retrofitting) or need to pre-wire them in your under-construction home. Also, don’t forget to take a surround sound test and check the surround sound headphones, before paying for the system.
