Quadraphonic

The beauty of a quadraphonic sound system is that it can give you an ultimate sound experience at an affordable price. Generally, to experience the maximum output of sound or for high definition perception, one needs a well-designed amplifier and strong speaker system, which must be then employed to custom-built and well-tuned room, designed specifically for using amplifiers and speakers. And, this type of a sound set-up can actually run into hundreds and thousands of dollars.

Needless to say, it is beyond the reach of most of us who otherwise enjoy well-recorded sound. However, all of you, with fine-tuned ears for good sound, don’t have to worry as there are efficient quadraphonic sound systems available in the market. These sound systems, especially the Japanese quadraphonic sound systems are well-known for providing remarkable aural experience at a cost of no more than a pair of good stereo systems. So you should not be surprised because at the end a quadraphonic sound system is a sound system with two stereo systems. In such a set-up, the first stereo pair is positioned in the front and the second one at the back, such that there are four discrete sound sources. The DIY quadraphonic audio system is renowned for its commitment to quality in this way.

How To Set Up A Quadraphonic Decoder

Multi-channel sound systems have been experimented with time and again, but introduction of the quadraphonic 8-track tapes in the 1970s was a key development in this direction. Peter Scheiber is credited for this invention. He used the basic mathematical matrix for encoding four-channels into two and thereby decoded them back to four. Following the success of this format, CBS of Japan immediately started developing decoders/encoders and remixing various albums into the quadraphonic form. It rolled out great fanfare with quadraphonic units from Lafayette, Marantz, Sony, and Fisher, of which quadraphonic fisher was among the most popular.

Conclusion

The quadraphonic system is an affordable and realistic approach to reproduce surround sound. The quadraphonic format of matrix encoding four channels within a two channel recording ensures that the sound effects are imbedded into a two-channel recording that can be retrieved by any normal phono stylus and can then be passed through a receiver or quadraphonic mixers with a quadraphonic decoder or quadraphonic synthesizer.
