Television Shopping

When television shopping, it is always advisable to do an intensive search and comparison shopping for the right model and its right seller. There may be many electronic showrooms in your area selling all the important and popular brands.

Another way is to search the 'net' for online sales of your favorite television. There is a huge competition in online sales of televisions offering a wide variety of brands at very competitive prices.

Before you decide to settle for a brand, it size, design and cost, it is better to do some homework by keeping some of the points in mind.

1. Size up the dimensions of the room where the television set is to be located. A large TV set should not be placed in a small room which does not allow a reasonable distance between the screen and the viewer.

2. Measure the space where the TV set is to be installed taking into account its height, width and depth.

3. Critically view the picture quality and clarity of the TV you intend to buy.

4. Take a close view of the curvature of the picture tube. TVs with flatter tubes have less glare and shape distortion.

5. If you are going to purchase a projection television, it would do well to take note of the viewing angle of the TV.

6. Check the remote control for its ease of use and other features.

7. Listen to the audio quality of the TV. This may not count for much if you want to connect it to an external audio system. In such a case ensure that the set has the appropriate audio outputs.

8. Turn off the TV and check the darkness of the picture tube. Darker tubes are good at displaying higher contrast pictures.

9. There are many other features which come with the TVs such as PIP, TV Guide Plus, Universal Remote, Color Temperature adjustments, number of AV Inputs and so on. Take note of these features as well. Sometimes, the features are not important to you but you may have to pay for them even without ever using them.

10. If you buy a projection TV at more than $1,000, ask for the extended service besides the normal warranties.

11. Go for a digital TV, preferably DTV or HDTV if you can afford one.
